Dr. Prem Garg’s Philosophy on Resilience, Risk Management & Responsibility

Entrepreneurship is not about avoiding challenges; it is about facing them with clarity and courage. Dr. Prem Garg’s business philosophy—built on resilience, calculated risk-taking, and responsibility—has guided Shri Lal Mahal Group through decades of growth and adversity.

Dr. Garg strongly advocates disciplined risk management.

“Risk is necessary in business, but it must always be calculated. Never put all your capital into one decision,” he advises.

He believes no single venture should involve more than 30–35% of total capital, and risks should be shared through partnerships wherever possible. For startups, he recommends buffer funds and a minimum planning horizon of 1.5 years.

Equally important is fast and decisive leadership.

“Opportunities don’t wait for perfect decisions. Delayed decisions are often more costly than wrong ones,” Dr. Garg states.

The years between 2014 and 2017 were among the most challenging for the group due to legal and operational hurdles. During this phase, Dr. Garg relied on resilience, faith, and relentless effort.

“When everything seems against you, that is when leadership truly begins,” he reflects.

Work ethic plays a critical role in overcoming adversity. Long working hours—sometimes 14 to 16 hours a day—are common during critical phases. Dr. Garg believes leaders must set the example before expecting commitment from their teams.

Beyond business success, he emphasizes social responsibility. Employee welfare programs, community support initiatives, and advocacy for animal cruelty awareness reflect his belief that business must serve society.

“Success has no meaning if it does not uplift people around you,” he says. Dr. Prem Garg’s philosophy offers a clear blueprint for entrepreneurs: take calculated risks, act decisively, remain resilient, and lead with responsibility and compassion.
