About

Dr. Prem Garg is a distinguished business leader, philanthropist, and one of the most respected voices in India’s agricultural export industry. He serves as the Chairman of Shri Lal Mahal Group, among India’s oldest and most trusted rice export enterprises, founded in 1907. As the fifth-generation custodian of this legacy organization, Dr. Garg has played a defining role in transforming a traditional grain trading business into a globally recognized food company, while preserving the ethical foundation and values that have guided the group for more than a century.

Dr. Garg joined the family business in 1985 after completing his education. Rather than relying on inheritance, he immersed himself deeply in every aspect of the enterprise, combining hands-on experience with professional management, modern systems, and long-term strategic thinking. Under his leadership, Shri Lal Mahal Group expanded its footprint across India and international markets, exporting premium basmati rice and Indian-origin food products to 82 countries worldwide, with a clear vision to significantly expand its global reach in the years ahead.

Renowned for his composed, resilient, and people-centric leadership style, Dr. Prem Garg believes that leadership is not inherited by birth, but earned through responsibility, accountability, and continuous value creation across generations. His leadership philosophy is rooted in integrity, discipline, and a strong focus on sustainable, long-term growth. He advocates calculated risk-taking, timely decision-making, and innovation that respects tradition, ensuring progress without compromising core values.

Beyond his role within the organization, Dr. Garg serves as the National President of the Indian Rice Exporters Federation, where he plays a pivotal role in shaping industry policy, strengthening global trade relationships, and enhancing the international reputation of Indian food exports, particularly basmati rice.

Deeply committed to social responsibility, Dr. Prem Garg actively supports employee welfare, community development, and ethical business practices. He believes that true success lies not only in building profitable enterprises, but in uplifting people, strengthening institutions, and creating legacies that inspire future generations
